Certified gynecological dysplasia consultation hours

Certified gynecological dysplasia consultation hours, video colposcopy and diagnostic colposcopy

During this consultation, women who have cell changes (=dysplasia) on the cervix, vagina or labia or inflammatory
changes, infections (e.g. condylomas a.k.a. genital warts), chronic itching or chronic diseases such as lichen
sclerosus are assessed and treated later.
The term "dysplasia" means a deviation of the tissue structure from the normal picture. These cell changes can
represent precursors for a malignant disease. Regular preventive examinations, during which the cancer smear test
(PAP) is carried out, are decisive for the early detection of abnormal findings on the genitals.
PAP is an acronym for Papanicolau, the doctor who developed this technique.
PAP I: normal findings
PAP II: Inflammatory / Degenerative Changes (still normal)
PAP IIw: unclear findings, control smear required
PAP III: Severe inflammatory and / or dysplastic changes, unclear findings, neoplasia (precancerous stage) cannot
be excluded
PAP IIID: Mild to moderate dysplasia
PAP IVA: Severe Dysplasia
PAP IVB: Severe dysplasia, invasive carcinoma cannot be excluded
PAP V: Suspected Invasive Carcinoma (Cancer)
A detailed further diagnosis is then carried out, which includes the following:

• Renewed cell smear from the cervix (conventional and thin-layer cytology a.k.a. ThinPrep)
• HPV virus detection as dysplasias are often associated with human papillomavirus infection
• Colposcopy (magnifying glass of the cervix) using video colposcopy, which the patient can follow on the
monitor
• painless tissue sampling in the event of abnormalities
• detailed advice and recommendations for further treatment through clarification colposcopy
• Clarifying colposcopy is a quality assurance measure, with which the quality of the clarification of
conspicuous findings for the early detection of cervical cancer by means of a differential colposcopy
(clarifying colposcopy) is to be ensured. It is used for the histological confirmation of squamous and
glandular atypias / neoplasias as well as the definition of the operative strategy and must be carried out
before operative interventions.
